From the cradle to the tree

How it all started

Learning the trade, far from civilisation in Papua New Guinea

I grew up in Papua New Guinea. I was touched by the creativity of local woodcarvers. Using a leaf as a brush, Creativity, color, form, function and nature have always been a common theme in my life. I started painting and eventually became a graphic designer.

Designer

Campaign for the Hortus botanicus Leiden

Always looking to cross the boundaries without losing sight of the functional aspect of the design. Designing colorful and striking posters that made people look, was the closest I could get to being an artist.

Artist

Painting en plein air

For many years I haven’t been able to combine designing and painting. To me they are two totally different worlds. I focussed on design and painting was in the background. However it is a force I cannot deny and now it’s time to let painting shine!

Trees

Cascades, Auckland, New Zealand

Nature is my continuing inspiration. I think it is well rooted in my early childhood. Living in cities for most of my life undisturbed nature has always been a part that was missing. I found it again when I lived in New Zealand, where the forests and fauna touched me with their beauty, strength and freedom. The life that runs through the veins of the trees. It is what I try to capture in my paintings..
