‘Portraits of Trees’
1st of May - 30th of June | Dorpskerk Voorschoten
Amidst the shadow of ancient forest giants and the interplay of light on young birches, artist Joris Smidt finds his inspiration. He is fascinated by the unique characters of trees, each with its own dynamic. Smidt sees trees as silent witnesses of time, bearers of memories, and symbols of resilience. In the spring, he is enchanted by the fleeting splendor of blossoms, and in the autumn by the winding branches that make their way through the air. The paintings are a vibrant dance of lines, color, light, and shadow. Let yourself be carried away by his perspective and experience the power and beauty of nature.

My friends sometimes call me the treehunter
I’m fascinated by nature and always deeply touched by it. I have been since I was a child. I’m always on the look-out for inspiring spots to paint. Hunting for the right tree to paint. I celebrate its existence and importance by transferring my version of the tree onto a canvas.
